Stephen Jones gave 105.3 the Fan some intriguing news this week. He added on the radio station that the team was "radar" for CeeDee Lamb and Trevon Diggs extensions. The Cowboys picked up Lamb's fifth-year option and Diggs' final year from the 2020 draft class.
You can see here how much Trevon Diggs would cost the Cowboys based on recent CB contracts that reset the market. We'll also estimate Lamb's re-signing cost for the Cowboys.
First, let's determine why Lamb deserves a new deal with America's Team.
The Cowboys were grateful to get Lamb with the 18th pick of the 2020 draft, leaving divisional rivals in ruins. Lamb quickly became known for circus catches and receiving acrobatics.
In 16 games with three quarterbacks, Lamb had 74 catches for 935 yards and seven scores, second among rookie receivers. Lamb improved his rookie numbers and made his first Pro Bowl.
Lamb was most stressed in 2022. Lamb led the Cowboys' passing attack after Amari Cooper was traded and Michael Gallup missed the season. The passing game struggled without a proven passing threat opposite him and an ailing Dak Prescott.
Jerry Jones questioned Lamb's ability to lead Dallas when the offense struggled early in 2022.
Lamb responded with his greatest season, 107 receptions for 1,359 yards and five 100-yard games. He was a Second-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowler again in 2022. Lamb has become one of the game's top wide receivers with a unique skill set in three seasons. Lamb terrorizes defenses. At 24, he has superb ball skills and route running.
