Kevin Costner returns, but not to Yellowstone's fifth season. Instagram photographs (via ScreenRant) show Horizon 2 production in Utah. Costner co-wrote, produced, and directed.

In August 2022, the first segment began filming four films back-to-back. Project announcement came in January 2022.

Horizon, a "passion project" for Costner, will span 15 years before and after the Civil War growth and colonization of the American West.

"America's expansion into the west was one that was fraught with peril and intrigue from the natural elements to the interactions with the indigenous peoples who lived on the land, and the determination and at many times ruthlessness of those who sought to settle it," Costner said at the time.

"'Horizon' tells the story of that journey in an honest and forthcoming way, highlighting the points of view and consequences of the characters' life and death decisions."

The photographs come amid uncertainty regarding Yellowstone's fifth season's second half. Yellowstone confirmed its summer comeback after its midseason finale earlier this year.

Rumors of backstage conflict, particularly with Costner, delayed production this spring. The show's PaleyFest presentation was marred by the absence of four cast members, and Taylor Sheridan and Costner have reportedly clashed over the show's production schedule.

"Scheduling conflicts" were blamed. Costner denies the rumors.
