The Zodiac Killer terrorized journalists with cryptic messages in the late 1960s...
...while killing five people and leaving two others in Northern California with serious injuries.
Between December 1968 and October 1969, the killer struck seven people in Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa,
and San Francisco, California. Targets ranged in age from 16 to 29 and included four males and three women.
However, the murderer would assert that he had murdered 37 individuals in letters to Bay Area media.
The first two killings were carried out by him on December 20, 1968,
when he shot and killed 16-year-old Betty Lou Jensen and 17-year-old David Arthur Faraday on the border of Benecia.
Michael Renault Mageau, 19, and Darlene Elizabeth Ferrin, 22, were the targets of his second attack on July 4, 1969, in Vallejo,
however Mageau survived despite receiving head and neck shots.
