Aaron Rodgers said on the Pat McAfee show over a month ago that he will play for the New York Jets next season. The trade remains unofficial.
Boomer Esiason, who played three of his 14 NFL seasons for the Jets, thinks the deal will get done.
Esiason said Rodgers to the Jets is still happening on his Boomer and Gio Show. He anticipates an agreement before next week's NFL Draft.
“I still firmly believe, and I’m not backing off, that it’s gonna happen, and it’ll happen relatively soon,” Esiason said. Before the draft. The Jets and Packers will trade first-round picks. It will be a factor.”
The NFL Draft, held April 28-30, has been touted as a deadline for a Rodgers deal. The Packers and Jets' draft compensation may have caused the delay.
While Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst effectively stated that the Packers aren't asking for the Jets' first-round pick this year as part of the transaction, Esiason said he thinks the two teams might swap first-rounders.
Packers choose 15th, Jets 13th.
The Rodgers saga may end five days before the draft.
